Diving fans are very lucky. Every time they dive down into the sea, they discover a new view of the world. The beauty of the seabed is beyond compare and nobody can avoid being impressed by the diversity of colours and species that inhabit it. Diving is a magical experience.
With this particular view of the planet accompanying them on every dive, it is not unusual that there are couples whose dream is to get married on the seabed. In the Canary Islands, our job is to make your wedding perfect for you and that is why we have been holding underwater weddings for more than a decade.
The first underwater wedding held at our islands was at the end of 2003 and, since then, many couples have decided to say “I do” in this unconventional way.
The Canary Islands are not the perfect choice as a destination for a wedding in the waters of the Atlantic just because there is great visibility on our seabed—El Hierro is world-renowned for this—but because the water temperature is so pleasant, with a surface temperature of between 17ºC and 26ºC all year round.
When it comes to choosing the location for the ceremony, it has to be somewhere relatively shallow – as the natural light will add a spectacular touch to the photos.
The wedding must be celebrated by a professional with a diving qualification. The diving centres on our islands will inform you about the availability of monitors who meet this requirement to help you programme the best day for the dive.
With regard to the guests, if they know how to dive, it will be easy for them to physically share the moment with you. But, if they do not, a good solution is to broadcast the ceremony live for anyone who has to stay on solid land. Regardless of what happens, they will all smother you with kisses, hugs and congratulations as soon as they get the chance.
