Between December 2nd 2015 and January 11th 2016, Promotur launched a great campaign to promote the Canary Islands as an ideal tourist destination for celebrating weddings, honeymoons and romantic trips: Win your dream wedding in the Canary Islands.
Among participants from a dozen countries (Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Sweden), Anton Wierenga and Fayna Krom from Denmark were the lucky winners of this first edition.
Thanks to the over 200 messages from family and friends that they collected in their memories album for the competition, the couple won the organisation and celebration of their wedding on the island of Lanzarote, an island that has always been an important part of their lives.
My first visit to the island was when I was just three months old and, since then, I have spent several holidays a year there – Fayna tells us. Anton and I have visited almost all of the islands, except for La Palma and El Hierro.
Since our daughters were born, Yaiza and Rosa, we have come back to Lanzarote as a holiday destination and travel twice a year so that the girls can enjoy the beach, the sun and the wind. For me, going to Lanzarote is like going home. Although it has changed a lot over the years, the island still has that special charm. I am delighted that Anton and our daughters share this love of the island and I am sure that we will continue to return in the coming years.
To finalise the details of the celebration, Anton, Fayna and their daughters travelled to Lanzarote one week before the wedding. Upon arriving, they were greeted by the minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, María Teresa Lorenzo, as well as by various communication media outlets.
During this week they visited different parts of the island, such as Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife, Los Jameos del Agua and Playa de Orzola, while a filming team recorded all of the important moments experienced by the couple.
The weather has been great. We have been able to go to the beach, go shopping and finish up the final details for the wedding.
